Apple Picking

So, one day I was checking out at Albertsons, and I was raving to the cashier about "Jazz apples", so good. And she told me that all apples were coming into season, or at least Julian apples, and that she was going to go apple picking in a few weeks. Sounded like fun! Something different, possibly educational, and of course good picture potential!

So, I looked up apple picking online, and found a great review for this adorable little organic orchard, "Apples and Art". It starts with an apple talk, then you get to go pick, and at the end, you get to make cider.

How fun does that sound?!? Yah, I was pretty excited. Turns out, that you had to have a group and a reservation. So I set out to emailing friends and family to get a group big enough to buy the minimum of $100 worth of apples. I got my group, and made our reservations, and we were ready to go.

I looked forward to it for weeks. I stressed that we needed to be there on time, and was shooting to be there early myself.

That was the first snaffou. Mapquest got us

almost there, but had us turn right instead of left

at the last crucial turn. So we drove 15 mins in the wrong direction, and then had to turn around and come back. I was pretty disappointed that they didn't have a sign off the road saying "Apples and Art, this way!!" Come on, is that too much to ask? They had a 10x10 little sign right outside their house. Which is better than nothing, since there was NO other way to determine if we were in the right place or nit!

Then, the apple talk, which was supposed to be full of insights.... She read it off a paper. And it was about 6 facts, and a LOT of rules. Kind of a jip.

Then we got the tiny bags. $10 for "about 5 lbs" of
apples.... and we picked them ourselves. So,

obviously, it was more for the experience than the great savings! Not to mention, she made us take the ones with worm holes. "Don't worry, the worms just crawl in, eat the seeds, and then crawl out". Uh, still grose!

But the kids had a blast, and if by chance you did find a ripe apple without worms in it... it was delicious!! Roman bit into one and it oozed with juicy frothy goodness.

Thanks to all my friends and family who made the trek and shared in the adventure with us!!
